November is a busy time of year at ICS. We have the play, Thanksgiving week, and many other fun activities.
But don't worry, dear friends, there is always time for TECH class! 6th grade: This month 6th graders are learning about loops and sequences in coding. They even made up their own dance moves to demonstrate loops in one of our most fun classes yet! These kids really know how to party! 7th grade: The 7th graders have begun learning HTML, with the final goal of being able to embed a piece of working HTML code into their wonderful creative Weebly websites. 8th grade: 8th graders are finishing up their blog posts and will be creating animated google slides, which they will embed in their creative Weebly websites! I can't wait to see what this class comes up with next. October is a lovely time of year at school. The students are finally settling into the routine of the class, and getting down to business. I feel like we've already accomplished so much, and the month isn't even over yet! 8th grade: The students have started their websites. We have a lot of sports fans, and creative portfolio websites. They are learning quickly and having a lot of fun working on the sites. Their major graded component for the course will be their blog post. So far, from what I've seen, these are great! Some of these students are destined to be bloggers! For those that aren't, that's OK too. Being willing to try and discover the talents that might be buried inside is one of the most exciting parts of technology. At the end of the month, they will have their second "Hour of Code" lesson which will focus on beginning HTML. Eventually, they will be able to build a form in their websites using HTML. 7th grade: The 7th graders are having so much fun with their websites! I can't stop them from working on them at the end of class, and they just love working on them at home too! So many of these students have made collaborative sites, and the portfolio sites are shaping up to be really high quality! I am so proud of our talented student body. They are all required to write at least one blog post for grading this semester. Some of them are writing multiple blog posts! At the end of the month, they will start another "Hour of Code" lesson, where we will focus on starting HTML, a coding language that is easy and important for nearly everyone their age to learn. 6th grade: The 6th graders really love technology class. This month they are mastering Google Slides by making a slide show "All About Me". Then we turned the tables, and had a quiz show where they had to guess slides for each classmate. It was so much fun to see how well they really knew each other! They also have learned drawing programs. They learned to discern which sources on the internet were sponsored, possibly biased and non-biased as well. Later this month they will learn another "Hour of Code" unit, where they will be introduced to HTML, the basic coding of the web. |
